  gall-nut in iconography

Myanmar

A certain style of Buddha images in Myanmar depicts the Buddha holding a sa-moh, i.e. the fruit of the gall-nut tree, between his thumb and middle finger. The fruit is said to represent the dhamma, which the Buddha offers as a cure for suffering (fig.).
