Chong ruong gia thu is the Vietnamese name for a style of roof support in which  the beams are piled up into the shape of a hand with five fingers, i.e. with three horizontal beams and five vertical supports.

 

Here, in a traditional merchant house in Hoi An, the heads of the horizontal beams are decorated with dragon's heads. The traditional lantern is known as teng lang (fig.), a Chinese word that derives from the term tung long, which means ‘caged lamp’ or ‘light basket’.
