There are many subgroups of Yi, usually classified according their geographical position and their spoken language, and differentiated by their own specific traditional dress. One group of women living in the area of Lijiang, wear a conspicuous headdress that consists of a black cloth dressed in a pentagon-like shape over a frame above the head.
