  Mahayana Buddhist novices

Vietnam

Mahayana Buddhist monks and novices in Vietnam wear a pale grey jacket and long baggy, kaangkaeng le-like, trousers (fig.).

Whereas Vietnamese monks shave their heads completely bald, novices have curtained hair, i.e. long on top but shaved at the back and sides (fig.). In contrast to the Hinayana Buddhist clergy in Thailand, the eyebrows are left untouched.
