Once a confluence for trade, the old town is today a UNESCO Heritage Site, due to its unique architecture.

The town also has a natural well, known as Yican, and today with a stairway and enclosed by a dragon fence.

 

The well is named after the place where in the winter of 1253 the Mongol troops led by Kublai Khan stopped and allegedly refreshed themselves on their way South to conquer Dali.
