The Dau Pagoda at Thuan Thanh in Bac Ninh province was built between 187 and 226 AD.

 

It is the oldest Buddhist temple of Vietnam and is considered to be the cradle of Vietnamese Buddhism. The brick pagoda at its center is known as Hoa Phong.

In the temple's back garden is a Buddhist graveyard with stupas that contain the ash bones of deceased monks.

 

In the temple's front court is a pagoda-like structure that has a roof with upward curved corners, which in feng shui are believed to ward off evil spirits.

In Vietnamese, this temple complex is referred to as Co Chau, Phap Van (fig.), or Dieu Ung.
