  Aarti

India

Each morning at dawn, as well as in the evening, Hindus gather at or in boats on the Ganges River (fig.) in Varanasi, for a ritual known as Aarti, in which tiny dipa-like candle lights, with wicks soaked in Indian clarified butter, are lit and offered to the river by setting them afloat.
