Today, we are in a Bangkok department store to purchase a personalized ball pen,
engraved with our names. The process begins as we select our chosen pen, and the
engraving journey begins. The pen is carefully secured in a specialized jig to
ensure stability as the operator prepares for the engraving. Using a pantograph
engraving machine, the operator manually traces a template of our names with a
guiding stylus. This movement is transferred to a precision cutting tool,
typically carbide or diamond-tipped, which etches our names onto the pen’s metal
surface. The engraving process requires steady hand coordination and attention
to detail, as the depth and clarity of the inscription depend on the precision
of the operator’s movements. Unlike laser engraving, which uses heat to mark the
surface, mechanical engraving physically removes material, creating a permanent,
tactile inscription. Once the name is engraved, any remaining metal shavings are
carefully cleared away, and the pen undergoes a final polishing to achieve a
refined, smooth finish. The result is a beautifully personalized Parker ball
pen, a unique keepsake engraved with our names, showcasing the fusion of skilled
craftsmanship and mechanical precision.
