PREVIOUS MOTH NEXT MOTH Thailand

Thailand is home to a large variety of moth species, including some very large ones, as well as moths with unique wing colours and wing markings, such as ocelli, i.e. eye-like spots.

Other species are masters in disguise, taking on camouflage that mimics bark, a dead leaf, or like this species of carpenter moth known as Phalera grotei, a broken-off twig. This species is commonly known as Grote's Buff-tip Moth and belongs to the family Notodontidae.
