  giant mohng

Thailand

This type of kong or gong is called mohng in Thai. This one, in Wat Bang Phli Yai Klaang, is quite large and was erected to celebrate the 50th birthday anniversary of King Rama IX. It is made of bronze, with a thick rim and a protuberance in its centre, which here is surrounded by a series of smaller protuberances. It is typically painted black, whilst the centre is decorated with a motif in a golden colour.
