  ho trai in basin

Thailand

In the past, the scripture hall or ho trai of a temple was often built on poles in a pond or water basin, in order to protect them against fires, as well as to prevent crawling insects, such as termites, from reaching the scriptures, which are typically written on fragile bai lahn, and damaging them.
