Thailand

The front page of Le Petit Journal of 10 June 1893, the year in which the Red Unnahlohm Society of Siam (fig.), i.e. the forerunner of the Thai Red Cross Society was founded. It depicts King Rama V, i.e. Chulalongkorn, with his consort Queen Sri Savarindira, who is also known as Sawang Watthana, and who was the organization's first president, a position traditionally held by all later successive queens up to present.
