  bintabaat

Thailand

Bintabaat is a term used to express the going about with an alms bowl (baat) to receive food. Thai mendicant monks are exclusively allowed to eat food offered to them and need to consume this before noon.

The monks therefore leave early, soon after sunrise, barefooted on begging round.  To offer food to a monk is called tak baat and is a popular way for lay people to gain merit or boon.
