Ladyfinger Cactus

A member of the family of Cactaceae, i.e. a species of cactus, with the botanical name Mammillaria elongata. It grows in densely packed clusters of elongated oval stems, that grow to around 15 centimeters tall. The stem is covered in soft yellowish-brown spines and when in bloom it produces white or yellow flowers. Though originally from Mexico, it is now a popular cultivar found in many places worldwide. This cactus is also commonly known as Gold Lace Cactus and in Thai, it is called niw thong (นิวทอง), i.e. ‘gold finger’.
