Thailand

Before the start of the Siam Niramit's daily spectacle, performers, such as this monkey character from the Ramakien, Phi Tah Khohn ghost (fig.) and Kinnari (fig.), come outside to show their costumes and skills.

In the centre of the outdoor area is a water basin with a fountain and bronze statues of more Kinnari, mythical creatures from Himaphan forest, that are half-bird half-woman, in front of a tree with colourful Lan Na style kohm kwaen lanterns made from paper (fig.).

Also present and ready for selfies with visitors are the elephants. Besides having an important role in parts of the show, they first welcome guests outside and wait for some kindhearted guest to feed them some of the goodies that are for sale, such as sugarcane and bananas, or take visitors on a short ride.

Early birds can also visit the traditional villages in the backyard that are built in the styles of the four regions of Thailand (fig.), and where traditional handicrafts (fig.), some music, and cooking of Thai snacks is demonstrated (fig.).
