TRADITIONS & UTENSILS

  Navaratri

Thailand

Navaratri celebrations in Wat Phra Sri Maha Uma Devi in Bangkok. During nine nights, three different shakti are worshipped, as well as other deities, such as Ganesha.

His image is carried around the bot three times in a kind of pradakshina-like procession, one evening prior to the start of the ten day festival. The first three nights of the festival are devoted to the terrible and destructive Kali or Mahakali, the next three nights are held in honour of the gentle and prosperous Lakshmi and the last three nights the wise and knowledgeable Sarasvati is worshipped.
