Two leucistic Monocled Cobras, i.e. mutated varieties of the genus Naja kaouthia. They have pale scales, caused by DNA mutation.

The reduced pigmentation makes their bodies pale pinkish brown, yet they have normally coloured eyes, not red as with albinos (fig.). Leucism is often mistaken for albinism and the Thai term pheuak, which is usually translated as ‘albino’, is used for both varieties and conditions, hence it is likewise called ngu hao pheuak. The term monocle refers to the single, pale, oval spot with a dark center, just behind the hood.
