Statue of King Narai the Great, in Phra Narai Rajanivet (fig.), since 1665  his palace in Lopburi, where he died in 1688, during the revolt of Ayutthaya.

 

He was ruler of Ayutthaya from 1656 and fortified Lopburi to serve as a second capital when Ayutthaya was threatened by a Dutch naval blockade.
