A statue of Si He Xiang, i.e. Four-Combination-Elephant’ or the ‘Four-United-Image’, otherwise known as the Four Harmonious Friends (fig.), at the Puning Temple Complex in Chengde (fig.).

 

As in the iconography of the Four Harmonious Friends in Tibet and Nepal (fig.), the animals, i.e. an elephant, a monkey, a rabbit, and a bird, are portrayed supporting one another, with the eldest on top and the youngest below.
