The Sri Lankan flag shows the depiction of a lion (singh) holding a sword, on a maroon field with in each corner a leaf of the bodhi tree (fig.).

 

Whereas the lion represents the Singhalese people, the sword stands for the sovereignty of the nation. The two vertical stripes on the left represent Islam (green), and Buddhism and Hinduism (saffron).
