A box of Cordyceps sinensis, known in Chinese as dong chong xia cao.

 

This parasitic fungus germinates in living organisms, often the larvae of certain moths, then kills the host, mummifies it and grows from the dead body. Due to this they are commonly called caterpillar fungus. It is a medicinal mushroom used in Chinese Traditional medicine.
