  Common Mapwing

PREVIOUS BUTTERFLY NEXT BUTTERFLY Vietnam

A Common Mapwing, also referred to as Common Map (fig.), spotted in Bach Ma National Park in central Vietnam.

It has a white to off-white upper side, with black veins that form an intricate pattern of map-like markings, reminiscent of stained glass.

  Common Mapwing

The markings on the underside of the wings are much paler than above and have some brownish ochraceous lining, while the ochraceous spots near the tail ends, that look like diffuse eyespots, clearly stand out. Above, the body is dark with very narrow pale lines that run from the back of the head to the end of the abdomen, while below the body is pale yellowish.
