  chula (male kite)

Thailand

Waw chula or ‘male’ kites with a pentagonal shape, that during contests are used against the pak pao, the ‘female’ smaller, diamond shaped kites (fig.).

The male kite is named after king Rama V during whose reign kite flying became a popular sport, mainly due to his support.
