  tapathi (ithi)

In Burmese, hermits, sages and ascetics are known as tapathi.  They typically dress in dark brown robes and wear a distinctive hat, which is similar in shape to that of the Indian rishi (fig.) and the Thai reusi (fig.). In Mon they are called ithi (fig.).
