  taak (slug)

Thailand

A slug, i.e. a shell-less mollusc, which is in Thai generically referred to as taak. This land slug is commonly known as a Tropical Leatherleaf and has the binomial designation Laevicaulis alte. It is overall dark-brown, 7 to 8 cm long and a faint beige line on the posterior back. During the daytime, it hides underground and comes out to feed on on plants at night, in order to avoid the sun that can easily dehydrate it, as well as to lower the risk to be caught by birds that feed on it.
