  silk pupae on skewers

China

Silk pupae are fit for human consumption and considered a delicacy by some. In China, they are even sold impaled on skewers at food markets.

The huge exemplars shown here are for sale on the Beijing insect market. In Chinese, this snack is known as zha can yong, i.e. deep-fried silkworm pupae.
