  seven lotus pedestals

Thailand

These seven lotus pedestals at Phra Phutta Monthon (fig.), a Buddhist compound and park in Nakhon Pathom, symbolize the first seven steps that the Buddha took immediately after his birth (fig.).

Each one is 80 centimeters high and has a diameter of 150 centimeters. They are placed in a circle and have a Buddhapada carved on the top, as well as a place name each of regions where the Buddha once preached.
