  nahm khaeng kot (ice lollies)

Thailand

A vendor selling nahm khaeng kot water-ice lollies, from an aluminum ice box which is covered with a rotating lid with holes that hold the tubular cylinders. The bottom part contains slurry ice to which salt is added (fig.), in order to change the freezing point of the water, bringing the temperature of the ice down to below 25 degrees Celsius.

The four handles on the rotatable, perforated cover are grips to allow for the lid to be occasionally turned around, in order to prevent the cylinders from becoming icebound to the ice below (fig.).
