A boxer practicing muay khaak cheuak, the ancient form of muay thai, wearing a mongkon (fig.) and prachiad (fig.) made of rope, is also binding his forearms and fists with rope.

 

Though originally bare-fisted, this ancient style of boxing probably originated in the Ayutthaya Period as a form of combat for unarmed defence and attack. Later on, it evolved into a fighting sport and boxers began binding their fists and forearms with hemp rope.
