composite fresco of Nandi with Airavata

India

A composite fresco of the bull Nandi, driven by the Hindu deity Shiva and his shakti Parvati, and whose head merges with that of the elephant Airavata, mounted by the Vedic god Indra and his consort Sachi. The fresco is perhaps a reference to the fact that in later Hinduism, the popularity of the Vedic gods was slowly absorbed by the Hindu gods, as was the Trimurti.
