TRADITIONS & UTENSILS

  chaab lek

Thailand

The chaab is a pair of handheld cymbals similar to the ching (fig.), but larger, thinner and not joined by a string or cord. Instead, they have a separate handgrip each, usually a colourful tassel.

There are two sizes, i.e. chaab lek and chaab yai, with chaab lek (seen here) measuring about 12 to14 centimeters in diameter and the larger ones usually about 24 to 26 centimeters (fig.).
