  White Wagtail (male Amur Wagtail)

The White Wagtail is a bird which in Thai is called nok um baat. This translates as a ‘bird carrying an alms bowl, and refers to the shape of the black patch on it's breast, which is reminiscent of a monk's alms bowl (fig.).

 

This particular male bird, spotted in Old Sukhothai, apparently has one of its legs missing.
