Thick-billed Pigeons are sexually dimorphic. Males (photo below) have a maroon mantle, whereas that of females (photo left) is green, yet both sexes have red legs and the same characteristic, yellow wing-bars and pale blue-green orbital rings.

Different from females (photo above), males (photo right) also have light underparts and a grey crown.
