  Tham Krasae

Thailand

Tham Krasae (กระแซ) is a small cave in Kanchanaburi Province, located in a cliff along the Death Railway (fig.). It overlooks the Kwae Noi River that flows in the valley below and from which it most likely gets its name, as krasae (กระแส) with a slightly different spelling in Thai, means ‘stream’.

It houses a Buddhist shrine with several Buddha images, including this crowned Buddha, as well as some other religious statues. Besides this, the are some remarkable natural rock formations, many in the shape of an animal (fig.).
