Asian Glossy Starling

Common name for a species of passerine bird in the family Sturnidae and with the Latin scientific designation Aplonis panayensis. It occurs in Southern Thailand, which can be seen from its Thai name, i.e. nok ihyang dam pak tai (นกเอี้ยงดำปักษ์ใต้), which translates as ‘black starling [of the] southern region’, as well as in Borneo, the Philippines and Taiwan, and in some parts of India and Indosnesia. Its natural habitats consists of tropical and subtropical moist lowland forests including mangrove forests, as well as urban environments. Adults are overall glossy black, with a greenish-blue metallic shine, red eyes and a large black bill, whereas the underside of immature birds are white with vertical black streaks.
