PREVIOUS BIRD NEXT BIRD Thailand

A Spectacled Spiderhunter, spotted in a garden near Khao Sok National Park in Surat Thani, perching on a tree known as the Flame of the Forest. With its long, downward-curved bill, this bird can easily reach the nectar that is buried deep in the tree's large flowers (fig.).

Spectacled Spiderhunters have olive backs and brownish wings, with some darker colouring towards the lower back, wing tips and tail, a blackish, thick, broad-based bill that curves downward, a broad yellow eyering, and a prominent yellow ear-patch. See also List of Thai Animal Names.
