Painted pictures depicting the annual Songkraan celebrations, i.e. Thai New Year: 1. song nahm phra, i.e. paying respect to Buddha statues by pouring scented water on them; 2. rod nahm mon, i.e. paying homage to the elderly by pouring scented water over their hands; 3. khon saai khao wat, i.e. returning sand to the temple by ko phra chedi saai, i.e. building sand pagodas known as chedi saai; 4. splashing water on each other for fun (fig.), an event which in the ancient city of Ayutthaya is joined by the local city elephants (fig.).
