  Scorpion Fly

 

Thailand

A female Scorpion Fly, that was spotted in Khao Yai NP. The reddish orange tail end lacks the bulbous sting-like appendix which stand at the origin of this insect's name, yet is present only in males. The wings are clear with thick blackish veins at the base and blackish apexes with a transparent spot at the centre. See also List of Thai Insect Names.
