  Royal Thai Naval Academy

Thailand

The riverfront gate (fig.) of the former Royal Thai Naval Academy at Thonburi Palace (fig.). It has the Naval Academy's emblem (fig.), i.e. three anchors and a chakra, and a text that reads: Rohng Rian Nai Reua Pho. So.  2449-2489 Phra Rachawang Deum, i.e. Naval Academy BE 2449-2489, Former Palace.

On either side is a black ornamental circle with at its centre the Thai letter Cho (), which is the initial of King Chulalongkorn, who in 1906 established the school. In the niche on the right is a plaque commemorating that event with an eulogy by Rama V (fig.), and in the back is a statue of King Taksin (fig.), who formerly had the premises as his residence.
