NATURE & GASTRONOMY

  Plum Mango

Thailand

There are several species of trees and their fruits that go by the same common name of Plum Mango, i.e. a plum-like tropical fruit tree native to Southeast Asia and related to the mango.

The varieties are known in Thai as maprahng (Bouea macrophylla - fig.); mapring (Bouea oppositifolia and Bouea microphylla, which though considered a distinct species have the same name in Thai; and mayong (Bouea burmanica - fig.). Whereas the fruits of the mayong are somewhat larger and more slender than the egg-shaped fruits of the maprahng, the fruits of the mapring are smaller and more round in shape, like the ones seen here.
