Thailand

The Naval Dockyard in Thonburi is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, directly to the opposite of the Grand Palace (fig.), here seen in the background.

The navy compound has several barracks, hangars and dry-docks, where boats used by the Royal Thai Navy are built, maintained and repaired, as well as a Buddhist temple called Wat Wongsamoon Wihaan (fig.).

In the reign of King Rama V, the original dry-dock (fig.) was extended and now its length runs all the way to the grounds of the temple. Today, it can also be sealed off with a floodgate that gives direct access to the Chao Phraya River.
