  Koh Chang naval combat memorial

The Koh Chang naval combat memorial in Trat province commemorates the Franco-Thai naval engagement of 17 January 1941 when in these coastal waters a small sea battle took place between the French and Thai Navy, killing 37 Thais.

 

On its peak stands a statue of Krommaluang Chumphon Khet Udomsak (fig.), the innovator of the Royal Thai Navy.
