An Indian Darter drying its wings at a lake near Bharatpur. This cormorant-like bird (fig.) is also known as Oriental Darter, and is nicknamed Snakebird as well, owing to its slender, snake-like neck.

 

Due to insufficient oil in its feathers, this bird has to open and dry its wings after each dive in the water. See also List of Thai Animal Names.
