Heng Ko performers typically wear shiny costumes in vivid colours, as well as rich facial makeup  (fig.).

 

This makeup is often fashioned with symbols from themes of Mahayana Buddhism, such as with this actor, whose makeup is in the form of a bat, known in Chinese as foo, and a typical symbol for good luck.
