  Great Cormorants in V-formation

PREVIOUS BIRD NEXT BIRD Nepal

When a flock of Great Cormorants are flying together, they adopt a V-shaped formation. For larger birds, flight in symmetric V-formation reduces drag and thus conserves energy.

This is because the vortices generated by the wingtips of the bird in front create lift for the bird behind. See also List of Thai Animal Names.
