  Golden Swan Royal Barge

Thailand

The Golden Swan Royal Barge or Reua Phra Thihnang Suphanahong on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok during the Royal Barge Procession of 12 June 2006, which was held to commemorate the 60th anniversary on the throne of King Bhumipon Adunyadet (fig.). The specially designed logo for the birthday occasion, i.e. a yellow field with a golden throne, the five kakuttapan and some other royal paraphernalia (fig.), can be seen on the large billboard in the background. With yellow being the King's personal birthday colour (see sih prajam wan), most people in the audience wear yellow shirts. This photo was made near the Rama VIII Bridge (fig.). Note the paddles which are gilded and the oarsmen, who use a stylized rowing motion to suggest a flight with wings.
