  picture-wing fly (large fruit fly)

Thailand

A fruit fly of the genus Bactrocera, that belongs to the family Tephritidae, the variety of picture-wing flies, which in Thai are commonly referred to as malaeng wan ponlamai.

Picture-wing flies are larger than fruit flies of the family Drosophilidae, commonly known as vinegar flies (fig.), and are easily distinguished from other, similar flies, by the dark pattern or banding of the wings. See also List of Thai Insect Names.
