  double hintha birds

Myanmar

Two hintha birds, a female atop a male, is the symbol of Pegu, i.e. Bago Region (fig.), here depicted upon entering this former Mon Kingdom of Hanthawaddy, which got its name from a Buddhist legend about these birds, and from the Irrawaddy River, in which delta region it is located.
