  CCTV Building

China

The CCTV Building, i.e. the China Central Television Headquarters, in Beijing. It was developed by a German and a Dutch architect, and has an irregular shape with an open center, which gave it the local nickname Big Boxer's Shorts.

The 234 meter tall skyscraper was completed in 2008 and was officially opened on new year's day of that year. However, in February 2009, the building was damaged by a fire that engulfed the adjacent Television Cultural Center, and the newly opened CCTV Building was closed again for renovation, which was completed in May 2012, after which it reopened with the officially inauguration following in June 2013.
