  Bhaisajyaguru

A statue of Bhaisajyaguru, the Master of Healing or Medicine Buddha, who attained Enlightenment before the historical Sakyamuni Buddha, and of whom he represents the healing aspect. This 32 centimeter high bronze statue is in the Bayon style from Cambodia, and dates from the 13th Century AD. The buddha is seated in the half lotus position, with both hands in his lap, whilst holding a small jar with a tiered conical lid in the palm of his right hand, which contains medicine nectar and represents his healing aspect.
